First Baptist Church Hickory

Our church has a strong heritage of missions education and involvement in missions work.  Individually and as a church, our members have been “on mission for Christ” in our community and around the world.  Our WMU has provided strong leadership in emphasizing seasons of prayer and giving for home, international, and state missions.  Our Baptist Men have provided invaluable service in leading our church’s participation in hands-on missions activities.  From roofing to doll-making, from disaster relief to helping a needy neighbor, from building Habitat houses to building wheelchair ramps, we find ways to share God's love in Christ.

Our Baptist Men are active both locally and nationally when disaster strikes.  Our disaster recovery trailer is one tool that we utilize on a regular basis to help meet the needs of those in crisis and to share the love of Christ in a hands-on way.  Whether it is a neighbor who needs a fallen tree to be cut-up and removed, or a national tragedy such as the flooding experienced due to hurricanes, our Baptist Men are ready and active, cooperating with other churches throughout the state and beyond to do Kingdom work.
In recent years, the Missions Council’s role in coordinating our missions activities has been expanded.  They have provided leadership for our church’s involvement in an “Inasmuch Ministry” to help members of our church and community with small maintenance, repair and cleanup projects.   Quarterly, we sponsor the American Red Cross Bloodmobile by hosting blood drives.  Other responses to needs in our community include coordinating flood-relief assistance to seven families in Grifton, NC and building and/or renovating three Habitat for Humanity houses in Hickory, NC.

Our Lord clearly teaches that we are to follow His example of ministry to those in need.  In Acts 1:8, Jesus commissioned his disciples to be missionaries in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the ends of the earth.  That means that First Baptist Church is to reach out in the name of Christ to those in our neighborhood, our city, our state, our nation, and our world.  We are to be Jesus' hands and feet, proclaiming the Good News of Christ in both word and deed.  There are many opportunities for us to let Him minister through us to meet the needs of others.  At FBC, our strong missions heritage motives us to continue to be faithful to the commission of Christ.  If you are seeking a place to be involved in hands-on missions, we would love to help you find your place.  May we be faithful to His call.
