The Senior Adults of our church are vital to the life of the church. We recognize their essential contributions over the years to who we are as the people of God in this place. We are grateful to God for the heritage with which they have endowed us. Our ministry with Senior Adults recognizes that that there are many varied resources available within our senior adult members, and that there are many varied needs among our senior adults. Just as a first grader's abilities and needs differ markedly from those of a fifth grader, so the abilities and needs of a sixty-year-old and an eighty-year-old differ markedly. Therefore, we try to provide ministry to and opportunities for ministry by senior adults at various stages in their senior years - whether you start at AARP's definition of 50, or 60, or 62, or 65, or wherever you consider the beginning of the golden years.
Our Senior Adults are actively involve in all ministries of our church, including worship, educational ministry, music ministry, and missions. Special ministries with our Senior Adults include ministries to our homebound members, the Mellodears, and Pinecrest Ministry. From September through June, the Mellodears, our senior adult choir, meet each Thursday at 10:00 am for rehearsals and frequent visits to area nursing homes to present music programs. On the first Thursday of each month the Pinecrest Ministry meets at 6:30 pm for a community worship service with the residents at Pinecrest. All senior adults are encouraged to participate in these activities.
We have also begun a lunch and Bible Study each Wednesday at noon (October-June). Although we welcome all ages, this service is aimed at our seniors who might not be able to join us for supper and Bible Study on Wednesday evenings. |
