On Sunday, October 11, Dr. Robert W. Canoy became a part of the ministry team here at First Baptist Hickory.  He will serve as our pastor in the interim period while, over the coming months, we seek God's direction for a new pastor.  We celebrate God's calling upon Dr. Canoy's life and are excited our ministry together. 

Dr. Canoy is the Dean of the School of Divinity and Associate Professor of Theology at Gardner-Webb University's School of Divinity in Boiling Springs, NC.  A native of Greenville, Mississippi, he holds the bachelor's degree from Mississippi College and the Master of Divinity and the Doctor of Philosophy from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.  Dr. Canoy has served as pastor for serveral Baptist churches including First Baptist of Shelby NC.  An accomplished academician, he has served at both The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
