First Baptist Church Music Ministry exists to provide music for our worship services that is honoring to God. The music shared in worship is chosen for the appropriateness of the text and message presented in the song or anthem.
A variety of musical groups is a part of the music ministry with each group singing a variety of musical styles.
Vocal Ensembles
- The Sanctuary Choir is the primary ensemble for our worship at 10:55am in the church sanctuary. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 in the choir room. This is open to anyone college and up who would like to be a part of the group.
- The Vocal Team, along with the Worship Band, is the primary music group for our worship at 8:30am in the church’s fellowship hall. The Vocal Team meets on Wednesday evening at 6:10. If you are interested in participating in this group, contact the minister of music.
- Youth Choir is open to all of those in grades 7-12. They sing periodically in both worship services and participate in a NC youth choir festival in the spring. They rehearse during the school year on Sunday evenings at 5:00. This is followed by a snack supper for the youth.
- The Children’s Choirs are divided into the following four age groups:
- Music Friends I – ages 3-5
- Music Friends II – grades K-1
- Music Makers – grades 2-3
- Young Musicians – grades 4-6
These groups meet on Wednesday evenings at 6:00. They work on singing skills and music skills each week. They sing periodically in both worship services.
- Melodears is our Sr. Adult Choir. They work and learn a music program in September and January, then go to area nursing homes to present this music program. They meet from September to May on Thursday mornings at 10:00. All senior adults are welcome to join this ensemble.
- Gospel Choir is a group of adults who meet the last Thursday of the month at 6:30pm to rehearse before singing at Pinecrest Assisted Living Facility on the first Thursday of each moth. All are welcome.
Instrumental Groups
- The Worship Band, along with the Vocal Team, is the group that leads music for our 8:30am worship service in the fellowship hall. This group is currently a rhythm section that would welcome other instruments. If you are interested in participating in this group, please contact the minister of music.
- The Adult Handbells meet on Sunday afternoon at 4:30. This group participates periodically in the 10:55am worship service. It is open to all college age and above. Music reading skills are a plus, but not necessary.
- The Youth Handbells meet on Wednesday at 4:45pm. This group participates periodically in the 10:55am worship service. It is open to all youth, grades 7-12. Music reading skills are a plus, but not necessary.
