MEET THE KAMAU FAMILY
Tony Kamau and Grace Thairu, and their two daughters Melissa age 10 and Vanessa age 4, have been working hard since arriving from their homeland of Kenya in 2008. The family is eager to get settled in a home of their own. Meet the Kamau family on May 6, at our kickoff event. |

KICKOFF EVENT - MAY 6 - 4:00PM
The Kamau family were our honored guests on Sunday, May 6, for a kickoff event dinner. The dinner was held in the fellowship hall at 4:00pm and featured a Hawaiian theme. During the event, the Kamau family was presented with a welcome mat featuring a pineapple symbolizing friendship and hospitality. Church members were given the opportunity to sign up to help build the Kamau's home and other ways to show support and volunteer. Sign up sheets will also be available in Sunday morning worship and in Bible study. Our church Habitat liaison, Frances Hilton, and other Habitat representatives were also on hand to answer questions. The next milestone will be on Saturday, June 2.

GROUND BREAKING & BUILDING - JUNE 1 & 2
We will partner with Habitat for Humanity of Catawba Valley to build the Kamau’s new home. A ground breaking ceremony hosted by the city of Hickory will be held on Friday, June 1, at 3:00pm. Following the ground breaking there will be a neighborhood block party to welcome the new families on 5th Avenue SW, sponsored by the community.
Building will begin on Saturday, June 2, at 8:00am followed by a small ceremony and lunch at 11:00am sponsored by FBC.. How can you get involved? Sign up in Bible study or on our website - www.fbc.cc. We need workers for the site and people to provide homemade snacks and lunch items. Together, with God’s help, we are doing GREATER THINGS!
HOW CAN YOU GET INVOLVED?
Members of First Baptist have two options. (1) Sign up in Bible study. Volunteer papers will be available each week. (2) Email the church office and tell us how you can help - building, landscaping, painting, or volunteering with food or snacks.
